Checked the section against MOBILE.md at its three reference widths instead
of assuming the breakpoints were enough. Two real failures at 360px.
The arrows sat in the heading's flex row, taking 96px from a 328px card and
crushing the lede into a four-line column — for a control that swiping
already provides. Below 640px they are now gone, the header is a single
column, one card shows at 86% so the next one peeks, and the affordance is
the right-edge scroll-fade MOBILE.md already documents for horizontal
scrollers. The fade lifts at the end of the travel, so the at-end state is
computed whether or not an arrow exists to consume it.
The arrow and add-to-compare buttons were 40px against a 44px floor. Both
are 44 now. A card title's own box is shorter, but its hit area is the whole
card through the ::after overlay, so it passes on the target that actually
receives the tap.
360, 390 and 430 now all report zero overflow, no failing tap targets and no
text under 11px. MOBILE.md wanted a Playwright width check and recorded that
Playwright was not in the project; it is, so the journey now carries one for
this page.

Three schools is not a neighbourhood in inner London, so the cap is six with
three visible and arrows for the rest.
Raising the cap exposes something the old cap hid. Tiers exist to reach a
usable set, and with six slots a naive loop would keep widening to fill them
— dragging in tier-3 schools ten miles away to sit beside three good matches
that had already earned the row. So tiers now stop relaxing once three are
found, and the remaining slots are filled only from the tiers already used.
Four tier-1 matches never open tier 2.
The carousel scrolls a list rather than swapping a view: all six cards are in
the initial HTML, so every link stays crawlable and the row still scrolls with
JavaScript off. The arrows' edge test carries an 8px tolerance because the
scroller's focus-ring padding is the first snap position — a row at rest
reports scrollLeft 2, and an exact test for 0 left the back arrow live and
pointing nowhere. Caught in the mockup.

The "how these schools are chosen" panel restated what the section already
shows — the phase in the lede, the shared characteristics on each card, the
distance above each name — so it cost space to say nothing new.
One line survives, and it is not a method note. A reader who sees "0.6 miles
away" and takes it for the walk has been misled by us, and no other element
on the card corrects that. The rest were claims the selection rules keep
true without narrating them.
Also records what happens past the third school: surplus matches are dropped
silently, because NearbyPlaces below already leads to the full lists.

A school page links outward to its places and never to another school.
This section adds that edge: three nearby schools of the same phase and a
comparable intake, each a crawlable link and each addable to the basket.
The design separates hard filters from soft preferences and never confuses
them. Selectivity, provision and opposite-sex intake are claims the section
cannot make, so they never relax, even where that means no section renders.
Gender and religious character describe closeness of fit, so they relax in
tiers — and the card states what actually survived rather than padding with
a match it did not earn.
Includes the mockup the design is drawn against, with all three tier states
live in both themes.

Adds the cut-off distance a parent actually asks about — "how close do we
need to live?" — end to end: a Singer tap, dbt staging and mart models, an
Airflow DAG, and a tile on both detail templates. 3,597 schools across 57
local authorities carry a figure; the rest are unchanged.
There is no national source for this. Each LA publishes its own cut-offs in
its own format, and the collected CSV is transcribed from PDFs, spreadsheets
and web pages — so most of the work here is deciding what is safe to show.
Data
* tap-uk-school-distance loads the CSV verbatim into raw. Keyed on
(urn, year, school_name), because school_name carries the admission
route: (urn, year) alone collides on 118 keys and a reload would have
silently dropped every band but one.
* stg_school_distance applies a 25 m – 25 km plausibility band. The source
contains 0.0-mile rows (published where a school filled on a higher
criterion), 1-metre cut-offs, and one reading 533 miles — ~4% of rows,
all of which would put a visibly wrong number on a live page.
* fact_admission_distance collapses routes to one row per school per year
using the furthest, and keeps route_count so the page can say the figure
is the widest of several bands rather than the one for a given child.
Serving
* Kept out of fact_admissions: that mart is EES-derived and near-complete
for England, this one covers 57 LAs, and the two refresh independently.
* Latest year only. Coverage is ragged — a school may have 2021 and 2026
and nothing between — so a history array would invite a trend line drawn
through gaps that are absences of publication, not of a cut-off.
* The Admissions section now renders on either source. 3% of the schools
that render have a cut-off and no EES admissions row, and gating on
admissions alone would have hidden the figure on those pages.
Interface
* The year travels with the figure everywhere it appears; a cut-off
detached from its admissions round is not a fact about anything.
* "Not a fixed catchment — it moves every year" sits under every instance,
because that is the inference a parent will otherwise draw.
* Replaces a hardcoded "Historical distance cut-off data is not available
for this school" that appeared on every secondary page, including the
ones whose council does publish it. The absence is now stated only when
it is real, and names the authority that would hold it.
The tint costs the muted tokens their AA margin: measured on the composited
backdrop (not the computed one, which reports the untinted card), --text-muted
falls to 4.09:1 in dark theme. The tile uses --text-secondary instead — 6.50:1
dark, 6.60:1 light.
The DAG is manual, like the other annual ones: councils publish on allocation
day, each on its own timetable, so there is no date worth scheduling against.

Replace the header's at-a-glance stats row with a location map that sits
atop the hero and blends into the school title. The map is a static,
non-interactive preview (never traps page scroll) with a coral pin; the
whole band — or the inline "View on map ↗" link by the address — opens a
fullscreen, interactive map. Compare floats glassy over the band.
The separate "Location" section (and its nav item) is removed; the map now
lives only in the hero. Schools without lat/long render the header with no
map band, as before.
New: SchoolHeroMap (fullscreen wrapper, forwardRef open handle) +
LeafletHeroMapInner (minimal single-school map with interaction toggle).
Applied to both primary and secondary detail views; dead heroStats/tone/
mapContainer CSS removed (shared .heroStat* card classes kept).
Also drops the orphaned "Latest data" note and does not reintroduce an
Ofsted strip in the hero (it would duplicate the Ofsted section directly
below). Mockup kept at mockups/header-map-hero.html.

A first-choice offer rate sitting on the y-max ceiling (100%) was drawn
flush against the top of the plot area, clipping the point marker. Add 8px
top layout padding and clip:false so ceiling values render in full, without
introducing a misleading >100% tick.

The hand-rolled SVG sparkline used px font sizes inside a 520-wide viewBox
that stretched to the full card width, so labels ballooned ~4x and collided —
and with 10+ years of real data the per-point labels and year ticks
overlapped badly, while the oversized chart stretched the "this year" view.
Replace it with a Chart.js line chart (AdmissionsTrendChart) in a fixed
200px wrapper, matching PerformanceChart: responsive px fonts, auto-skipping
x ticks, auto-scaled y-axis clamped to 0-100, emphasised latest point.

The school detail page only showed the latest admissions year. We store
every year, which is more decision-relevant for parents (the trend and its
consistency matter more than a single noisy year).
Backend now returns the full admissions_history (oldest first) alongside the
existing latest-year object. The primary SchoolDetailView gains a header
toggle ("This year | N-year trend") that swaps the Q&A for an SVG sparkline
of the first-choice offer rate. The toggle only appears when >=2 years carry
an offer rate; otherwise it falls back to the single-year card. Both views
share one CSS-grid cell so switching causes no layout shift.
