Rewrites every visitor-facing string that used an em dash, choosing the
punctuation for what the dash was doing: a colon before a list or
explanation, a comma for an aside, a full stop between two thoughts,
parentheses for an aside mid-sentence. Covers page titles and meta
descriptions, the home and admissions guide copy, school page headings
and notes, the compare page, metric labels and tooltips.
Two rewrites also fix the sentence around them: the closure banner no
longer repeats "proposed for closure", and the cut-off caveat's list of
priorities now parses.
A lone dash marking a missing value in a table cell stays: it is a data
convention, not prose. A Jest guard walks the source with the TypeScript
parser and fails on any other em dash in a string or JSX text node.

Follow-up audit of the rankings and admissions pages.
Admissions (AdmissionsView.tsx):
- National Offer Day no longer claims offers publish "from 12:01 am";
release times are set per-council (often late afternoon, some
overnight), so it now tells parents to check their council's page.
- Secondary preference count no longer states a flat "up to six"
(that's London/Pan-London); most LAs allow three to six. Mirrors the
hedge the primary step already used.
- Added the two deadlines that most often catch parents out: selective
schools' separate entrance-test registration (months earlier), and
faith schools' supplementary information form sent direct to the
school. Covered in both the primary and secondary criteria steps.
- Reworded the equal-preference tip so it's precise: order is the
tie-break among schools you qualify for (you get the highest-ranked
one), not irrelevant.
Rankings (RankingsView.tsx):
- Subtitle "Top-performing schools by X" -> "Schools ranked by X", so
it isn't nonsensical for context/equity/absence metrics.
- KS2 progress isn't published for 2023/24 or 2024/25 (no KS1
baseline). Selecting a primary progress metric on a recent year used
to dead-end on a generic "No rankings found". Added a scoped caveat
to the progress hint and an explanatory empty-state (primary only —
secondary Progress 8 is published).
Added an admissions smoke journey (static content, stable milestones).
Verified with tsc --noEmit and next build.

Table auto-layout sizes columns by unwrapped header text, so labels like
'Reading, Writing & Maths Combined Higher %' pushed the value column —
and the table — past the viewport. The label now renders inside a block
span capped at 110px (84px on phones), forcing multiline and keeping the
table fully in view at any metric.

Rankings mobile: the metric value — the point of the page — sat behind
a sideways swipe at 390px. The Area column now folds into a subline
under the school name, leaving Rank | School | Value to fit the
viewport with no horizontal scroll.
Rankings default metric becomes 'expected standard' (rwm_expected_pct);
'higher standard' stays available but no longer frames every school's
headline number in the terms parents least understand.
MetricTooltip was hover-only and display:none on phones — the mobile-
primary audience had zero access to the Attainment 8 / Progress 8 /
EBacc definitions. It is now a real button: tap/click/keyboard
toggleable with outside-click and Escape dismissal, 24px target,
shown at all viewports.

never throws, no-ops when Umami isn't loaded. Event names form a

The expected-standard ranking groups too many schools at or near
100% — the leaderboard isn't useful when the top 30+ schools all
share the same value. Switch the default primary metric to the
higher (above-expected) standard, which discriminates between
schools much more clearly at the top end. Secondary still defaults
to Attainment 8. Users can still pick either via the dropdown.
